General geographical data on Liechtenstein.

The fourth of the smallest states of the world was located in a territory limited to 28 km from north to south along the right bank of the Rhine, and 10 km from west to east. In the north and east, the border with Austria (34.9 km) passes, and in the west and southwest-with Switzerland (41.1 km).

Mountains occupy almost three quarters of the country’s total area. The lowest point of the territory of the Principality of the Ryuggell community is 430 m above sea level and the highest (peak of the grazpitz in the mountain chain Falcnis) – 2599 m. From the north to the south of Lichtenstein, the mountain ridge three sisters stretched. In the West there is the most populated region of the country, and in the east there are Alps with Samin valleys, Malbunbach and Lavens, used mainly for agricultural territories in the summer. From the middle of the last century, small settlements of the Malbun and the Steg, located on the slope of Mount Trisen, turned into centers of skiing. About a quarter of the country falls on the Rhine Valley – the channel of this river, which is gaining strength in the territory of Switzerland, has a width of about 50 m in Liechtenstein. Not so long ago, work was completed in the region to drain the swamps, and now the swampy soil areas remained only in the north of the country. In the valleys of Samin, Malbunbajes and Lavens, where there are practically no settlements, most of the land is occupied by fields and pastures.

The Rhine Valley is protected from cold winds with mountain peaks, so the climate here is soft – the average annual temperature is about 10.9 ° C. The coldest month is February with an average temperature of -1.7 ° C, and the hottest months -June and August 22.6 ° C. Warm wind halt is also a frequent guest in the fall and closer to spring. Thanks to the warm air, which brings with it strong hazy outbursts, grapes and corn mature faster. But such days are not rare when local residents, listening to the noise outside the window and sadly looking at how the next powerful impulse experiences the roof of the house and destroys their favorite kindergarten, are forced to drink medicines to calm the headache from sharp pressure changes.

The hills and slopes of the mountains are covered with mixed forests, coniferous trees appear even higher, which, in turn, replace subalpine and alpine meadows that delight the eye with a variety of shades of greenery and dim alloyed colors. On the territory of Liechtenstein there are 6 natural reserves, where they retain a special environmental situation inherent in a particular region and the place of nesting of birds. But those who have chosen a convenient pedestrian route can be found near the forest path Kosul, Serna, see at the very edge of the deer forest, and near a small river otter. Furled with small gray pillars in the fields, right near the busy highway, they wait for the production of herons, and smooth circles are made in the sky high in the sky. In the winter season, the choice of resorts is significantly narrowed. A trip to Dombay in winter is a great vacation option. Not expensive, not far away, but there will be a lot of impressions!
